Blocking Internet for Specific Apps

Does excessive data usage haunt you? Are you concerned with excessive data usage? If you are totally reliant on your cellular internet with a limited internet plan then chances are that you will end up using all your bandwidth very quickly. Android provides a way to stop the app-specific internet access.

Stopping internet access makes sense when the app is in the background. Stopping the internet access when the app is in the foreground would render it useless.

Let's see how we can accomplish this:

Steps
  • Chose the app for which you want to restrict the internet connection.
  • Navigate to Settings -> Application Manager ->  Select the app for which you want the internet access to be revoked
  • On the Info page for the app, tap on Data Usage label
  • On App, Data Usage page deselect the "Restrict the app background data" option
  • Launch the application and put it in the background.

The app won't have the connectivity when putting in the background.

Note: Please note that the steps mentioned above would be different in different Android OS.
